I’m always looking for practical ways I can save time without sacrificing quality, and I want to share 3 ways I’ve been saving some significant time lately. I’d also love to hear in the comments any of your time saving tricks.
1 – I’ve been using the Walmart Grocery Pickup service.
You put in your grocery order online and then you just go pick it up. They bring it to your car and load it up for you – way easier and faster than trying to shop with a toddler and an infant!
You can buy anything you could buy in store (including cold items, produce, meat, bakery items, etc). They have an app or website you can shop from, and it’s actually set up really well to make it easy to shop online.
They do a great job picking out produce, and the meat I’ve picked up has had a purchase by date well into the future. There is no added cost to use the service (although I believe there is a minimum order amount).
Not every Wal-Mart offers it, so I do have to travel a little further to go to the one that has it. Also, you do have to put in your order the day before. (In other words, I couldn’t submit an order at 10 am and pick it up at 5 pm.) This has definitely saved me a good half hour to an hour on many occasions.
2 – I’ve been shopping using an online service called The Trunk Club.
Trunk Club is basically a try on clothes by mail service. I signed up, answered some style and sizing questions, and Ciara, my stylist called me on the phone so she could get a good idea about what type of clothing I was looking for.
I love that I can try the clothes on at home, so I can really assess whether I like them and see how they coordinate with the rest of my wardrobe. Plus it’s way easier than trying to try on clothes at the store with a toddler and a baby.
I’m so impressed with how easy it is to return what I don’t keep. They include the return shipping label and even the tape to seal the box! Then I schedule a pick up with their app, and UPS picks up the box of items I don’t want from my house. I don’t get charged anything until they receive back what I’m not keeping, and then my card is just charged for what I keep.
I think I’ve received 4 trunks so far, and I’ve kept 1-2 things out of each trunk. That’s a total win in my book, because I only keep things I absolutely love and will wear all the time.
The only real con for a bargain shopper like myself is that the clothing is not super cheap. It’s basically full department store prices. Also, I think they’ve recently imposed a try on fee if you don’t keep anything.
This saves me a lot of time and keeps my wardrobe fresh without me ever having to go to the mall!
3 – I’m using the Project Life App to document family memories and create baby books for my kids.
This has not only saved me hours, but has helped me to actually get it done!
It’s a phone app that lets you do simple “pocket style” scrapbooking using the photos that are on your phone. You can add decoration and journaling also. I sometimes use voice to text for faster journaling. Then you print 8 by 8 or 12 by 12 pages right from the app (or use the option to export them and print them yourself). They also said that they are coming out with the option to order a photo book right from the app soon, and I can’t wait for that.
One thing I’m also doing in conjunction with this is to just use my iPhone for personal photos. I’m not using my “fancy camera” anymore for family photos because it just adds extra steps. Yes, the photos might be better, but I’d much rather have slightly lesser quality photos that are printed in books to enjoy than fantastic quality photos sitting in files on my computer.
I was able to put together about 10 weeks worth of pages (doing one layout per week in a project 52 style) on one airplane ride.
