It’s hard to believe that I’ve been blogging about my weight loss struggles and successes since 2006. (The original blog was a community blog that was hosted by Roni way back in 2006, I think. It’s since been lost in her big site crash.)
I am redefining success in the weight loss arena. I used to think that success meant tracking every calorie, following through with every workout, soaking in nearly every bit of available weight loss inspiration, and seeing the scale and my waistline go down, down, down.
All too often, I got so inspired and focused to lose weight that I lost perspective. I forgot about the other things in life that are so important to me. I’m sick of wasting so much time focusing most of my limited energy on my biggest flaw, and getting mediocre results at best, while ignoring so many of my talents and passions. I still think it’s very important to eat well, exercise, and actually lose weight, and, rest assured, I am not giving up – no where close to it!
Here’s the thing: If I arrive at my goal weight at the cost of a lot of other things that are important to me, have I really succeeded?
In order to succeed, I have to find a way to balance my weight loss efforts with the rest of my life, and that’s what I want this blog to be about: progressing toward true success every day. It’s not all about pushing that number on the scale down lower.
What does all that have to do with this blog? For years the one thing that I’ve been sharing on this blog is the thing that I struggle most with in this life – my biggest flaw. I admit I’m pretty lousy at maintaining my weight and saying no to a chocolate chip cookie is embarrassingly difficult for me – but, that’s only one little part of me. There’s so much more to me than my weight struggle.
I might be awful at managing my weight, but there’s some things I’m pretty good at and am pretty passionate about. I can make some pretty terrific baked goods (yes, I know, part of the problem). I can manage a budget with the best of them, and I can organize pretty much anything. You can hardly drag me out of The Container Store (an organizer’s dream), and spreadsheets make me giddy! I’m no expert, but my photography is improving, and I love reading and listening to audiobooks. I have a passion for capturing memories and Project Life. I love learning blog design and am fascinated with all those businesses that ladies run from their homes selling handmade goods or online services.
I am determined to find my element (that place where your passion meets your skills), and I’m taking this blog along for the ride.
While I will never stop sharing my weight struggles and successes with you on this blog, I want to share so much more with you. I want to share with you the things I’m actually good at as well.
To go along with my fresh perspective, as you may have noticed, I have a new title, Super Sweet Life, and you’ll be seeing lots more posts about all aspects of life from me. Be sure to sign up for e-mail updates below and like my Facebook page so you don’t miss out on the journey.
